Kelley K. Quinn: Labyrinths
Project Insight, Macomb, IL
The 2005 Project Insight Alternative Public Day School Mandala Labyrinth is 49’ in diameter and constructed of industrial paint and driveway sealer on an existing pavement. The mandala labyrinth was designed by Kelley Quinn and completed with approximately eighty Alternative Public Day School students, teachers and staff. A series of activities that fulfill Illinois education standards in art, mathematics, geography, history and English were integrated into the project. This project was funded by Citizen’s National Bank of Macomb; Sherwin Williams Paint Store; Regional Arts Center Initiative; local businesses; and by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the Two Rivers Arts Council, a regional arts organization. The mandala labyrinth is located at Project Insight Alternative Day School in Macomb, Illinois.

Moses King Brickyard, Colchester, IL
The 2005 Brickyard Labyrinth is 49’ in diameter labyrinth constructed with brick, crushed brick and mixed media. The labyrinth was designed by Kelley Quinn and completed with approximately eighty regional, local and student volunteers over the course of two weekends. The Brickyard Labyrinth was partially funded by local businesses, The Regional Arts Center Initiative and by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the Two Rivers Arts Council, a regional arts organization. The Brickyard Labyrinth is located at the Moses King Brick and Tileworks National Historic Site, Colchester, Illinois.

Horrabin Hall, Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL
The 2006 Horrabin Hall Infant and Preschool Center Labyrinth is a 30’ diameter permanent 3-circuit labyrinth made of crushed pink limestone, drought resistant grasses and aluminum edging. The labyrinth was designed by Kelley Quinn and completed with approximately twenty-five preschoolers and family members as well as ten teachers and staff. A series of curriculum-rich projects including identifying circles through children’s books; nature walks, and a variety of circle activities were integrated into the project.
Labyrinth Healing Garden Maquette, Macomb, IL
The Children’s Labyrinth Garden project is part of Western Illinois University’s We Care beautification program to continually improve the quality of life on campus. The project was funded in part by the Western Illinois University Physical Plant, by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the Two Rivers Arts Council, a regional arts organization. The Children’s Labyrinth Garden is located at Horrabin Hall on the campus of Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois.
Intercultural Dialogue Labyrinth, Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL
The 2005 Intercultural Dialogue Labyrinth was a 30’ diameter temporary installation constructed from tape, stones and candles. For Western Illinois University’s Tenth annual Dealing with Diversity Institute on the campus of Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois, September 15-19, 2005.
